Accommodation

Black Clauchrie House was originally built as a luxurious shooting lodge for the Austin family between 1898 and 1901. It is a classic example of the Arts and Craft movement style with all the panelling, wooden beams and open fires that one would expect. A Particular feature is the vaulted ballroom with inglenook fireplace and minstrel gallery.

The 14 acre gardens are lovely, protected by a new 'midge-eating' machine. There are extensive lawns with screens of rhododendrons and mature woodlands. A river runs down the lower boundary and feeds the pond abundant with regional wildlife and fish. In addition there is a walled garden, simple in design and stocked with mature shrubs, fruit trees, herbs and flowers, offering total seclusion.
